Welcome to the Jungle Marathon

This was going to be a very tough race, but none of us realised quite how tough!!

Just in case you do not know the basics of this race, it is a 7 stage/day, 200km race through part of the Amazon Jungle.  Runners have to carry 7 days of food, water between check points (CP), first aid kit, hammock, spare clothes etc.  The race organisers do provide us with water and a route plan but otherwise it is up to the runners to get through on their own.

There are many multi-day events like this but maybe none as hard!!

The posts on this blog are put into relevant categories so although this post is at the top, the posts directly beneath are not in any particular order.  To read posts by day e.g. Day 1 or category e.g. Kit use the category navigation on the RIGHT.

And if you have any comments or questions, please leave a comment.

Finally, I hope you enjoy reading this blog and thanks for looking.  It may take me a few weeks/months to complete it, but like the race - I will!!

Loading the boat

Health and safety was NOT a big priority!

Sao Paulo airport

Being late, we had just under an hour to get onto our flight to Manaus.  Getting our luggage was a little slow for some and even slower for others.  One of the competitors (Steve Howard) and two of the support crew were in Sao Paulo but TAM had left their luggage in London - not a good start.

And we all buggered off and left Steve to fend for himself.  A sign of 'things to come'.  Not surprisingly Steve was not a happy man and to make matters worse could not get hold of anyone.

Leaving home

I left my house at just after midday on the Wednesday afternoon - little did I know it was going to take just over 2 days to get there!

We should have known when the queue to get on the plane took forever, it was 10% over sold and left late.  11 hours of flight already late - welcome to Brazilian time!
