Digital Nomads

African-people-mobile-phone-thumb-400x320

The Internet followed by recession has accelerated changes in how we work with more and more people working from home, hot desking, part-time, job sharing, second jobs, home based businesses etc.  So what's the impact on recruitment particularly as we come out of recession and back into growth?  Will the digital nomads be prepared to come back to the old world of employment?

Building a community - you get out what you put in - yes it takes time!

Growing

The next time a recruiter complains they do not have time to use social media to build a community of great candidates remind them why vegetables are often tasteless these days; a bit much like most of their (candidate) relationships.  You can force nature but you ultimately pay the price!

Cost-per-hire <£100 anyone?

What if your boss said you had to get your cost-per-hire to less than £100?  Assuming you are smart enough to already have it to £500 then that is an 80% reduction!  That's pretty much what Intel have had to work out for their new Atom chip.

Automating your Twitter account can be good. Really.

I said it.  You can automate your Twitter feeds and not bother having any conversations with people on Twitter.  No longer do you need to be tied to your Twitter account responding and commenting on every sip of coffee, bite of toast, moment of woe....... Of course the social media police will be after my login and the social media experts/gurus/consultants/know-it-alls will decry me as some kind of anti-Twitter and burn my profile at the s(tw)ake.  But life goes on.

Do recruiters have time for social media?

Social media takes too much time and recruiters, particularly those that are HR Pro's first and recruitment is "just another job", just don't have the time to waste on social media.  They need to spend their valuable time speaking with their favourite recruitment or advertising agency.

Social Media Revolution Video

Do you have a mobile recruiting strategy?

Mobile recruiting I do smile when I read about "Big Brand" marketers so often quoting protection of their brand being oh so critical.  This week I read in New Media Age about how Google mobile ads are in some cases linking people to web sites that do not render well in mobile browsers and therefore giving a "poor brand experience".

It is however a valid point so how mobile friendly is your career site?  You can either try and search/apply for a job on your own site via your phone or download a mobile phone browser simulator that you can run on your PC.

Opera have a great little simulator at www.opera.com/mini/demo where you can see how your site will look on a mobile with this browser.  Zoom in to read the text!

You may not think it matters today but as the mobile phones become so much more powerful the phone really is no longer just a phone.
