It really was only a matter of time before Jobpartners were acquired but is this such a sweet deal for Taleo or will they find out the hard way why Jobpartners stayed single for so long? They acquired Vurv what feels like eons ago and that was a difficult integration but Jobpartners is a very different beast to tame.
This week I've been in Austin, Texas attending the Lumesse US Summit. Apart from the fantastic weather, great food and wild, wild nightlife the Lumesse people in Austin put together a great few days. But, what happened and why was I there? Here's a little snippet on the theme of my little slot; my specially made video entitled "How the game of work has changed".

So this week has seen the final days of Stepstone Solutions and the welcome of Lumesse. As you may know, I was in Luton for the offical launch of the new brand and it was of course a great day for all involved. But, what about the people at the sharp end? What did they really think?

Having stirred up such emotions and opinions after my last post So Brave New Talent, WTF are you? I thought I'd do a comparison of the Open Community versus the Private Community idea.

I don't think many of the TA/TM vendors will be having Superbowl ads with the likes of Will.i.am but Salesforce did!

Quite a few years ago, when I was a Sales Manager, I wanted to implement a formal sales process which we would ultimately automate. I battled internally with a bunch of moronic Regional Managers (they were great really) for about 18 months. I then met a Sales Consultancy who specialised in such ideas and as they had been working elsewhere within the Group they carried credibility with our Board.
The Internet followed by recession has accelerated changes in how we work with more and more people working from home, hot desking, part-time, job sharing, second jobs, home based businesses etc. So what's the impact on recruitment particularly as we come out of recession and back into growth? Will the digital nomads be prepared to come back to the old world of employment?
Although you need to have a strategy that dictates the need for you to build a community, assuming you do, what about the technology? You can use Ning which is great and starts off as a free platform or you can get Jive which is the market leader with a Gucci price tag to match.
A good start point is the Gartner, Inc.'s 2009 Magic Quadrant for Social Software in the Workplace which you can get from Jive if you register here.
There is also the Enterprise Social Media event on 15/16 March at Olympia in London where you'll be able to check out various vendors that offer community software.
The number one consideration for me is data security. Not how secure is it, but how open is it. If for example you want to run an internal workplace community a platform such as Ning is not ideal whereas Jive will be too expensive for a lot of companies. Whilst a lot of companies are taking a strategic view of such ideas they are not necessarily expecting to invest £250k to achieve this with a yet unproven outcome. We are very much in the "land grab" scenario at the moment with very few UK providers but there are some. As I'll be at the event in Olympia I will be looking out for some alternatives as community building, internal and external, is key to any talent management strategy.
If any one is also going or wants to meet up post TRULondon I'll be around on 15/16 March.
