Imagine for whatever reason you could no longer work in recruitment. Ever again. Or in fact whatever you currently do.
But on the upside you were given a full years salary to go and do something else. Even if you started at the bottom of your new trade you'd still get the same salary you currently earn. What would you choose to do?
So why don't you already do it?

Are our live's today a reflection of our past? Is our business in the second half of 2011 a reflection of our activities in the first half of 2011?
On 24 September I will be taking part in the Great Gorilla run in London. Although I only have to run 7km I do have to be dressed as a gorilla! Why do it? Because there are only 720 gorillas left in the wild and it would be so sad to see them disappear off our planet.

We all have days when it all just seems to go wrong and trying to explain this to kids is never easy. Sometimes life ain't quite what you hoped for but at the end of the day, we are all trying our best to do the right thing. But kids don't always see it quite like this!
I presented at The FIRM event last week and was talking about SEO for recruitment. You can see the full presentation on a previous post: SEO made easy (or not). I mentioned that I would like to say that I started my blog in 2006 knowing that by 2010 it would outperform many career sites and in some cases job boards in the SEO stakes. But I didn't have such foresight but never mind, this is where it now is. So what may such a blog be worth to a business or a recruitment business?
It really was only a matter of time before Jobpartners were acquired but is this such a sweet deal for Taleo or will they find out the hard way why Jobpartners stayed single for so long? They acquired Vurv what feels like eons ago and that was a difficult integration but Jobpartners is a very different beast to tame.

I know it sounds a bit unrealistic but could you imagine being HRD for a top football team like Manchester United and having to do top talent performance reviews? What would the conversations be like?

Did I really say that? Call Linkedin a job board? Shame on me. Maybe they are a CV database as well? With some workflow and filtering capability? And a lot more on its way.
But so what if they are a job board. I had this debate a while ago and was told that Linkedin was NOT a job board. Beginning to look like one to me.
I remember oh so well my time with Jobs.co.uk PLC and our major investor Tim Watts then Chairman of Pertemps wanted to build the biggest CV database on the premise that he who owns the CV has the keys to the castle. Well, love him or hate him looks like he was pretty damn right. Around $8bn right. He had his hands on the treasured URL (www.jobs.co.uk) but unfortunatley it got re-sold and the rest they say is history. Or Linkedin.
Long live Linkedin.
You know you like me. I can tell the way you look at me with that little twinkle in your eye. Kind of longingly wondering how it would feel. Not necessarily for anything long term I realise but I know you want to at least find out.
Life is what we make it isn't it? We choose our careers, our partners, where we live, who we socialise with, what we eat, where we go etc. But deep down maybe when we look in the mirror we admit to ourselves that something is not right, we made a mistake but hey, suck it up, get on with it, that's life. DON'T BE A BABY!
