Right or Best?
So many state they want the best talent or do they really mean the right talent? It's not about accepting second best but doing what's right. There are so many good people trying to get a job yet they are not the best on paper so they get rejected.
In these times of austerity maybe a little humility will take us a long way. If the service is not quite as you hoped, or the customer service person wasn't as clued up as you, or the sales person didn't call you back, maybe we should take a breath and start again (note to self).
If the candidate has the right attitude and wants the job and you believe they will be good (but not perfect) and your vacancy has been open too long, maybe it's time for right instead of best.
Not everyone can afford the best. There are very few who really are the best. But there could be many who are more right than wrong.
Now you just need to convince the line manager!
