Why job SEO is not enough

So we are starting to see various vendors claim their stake in the career site SEO (search engine optimisation) game. But just because you optimise your jobs, it does not mean you have found the golden nugget.

First off, I have seen optimised jobs i.e. they are found by search engines, that don't turn up on page one of Google let alone the top of the page. I've also seen jobs that do turn up right at the top but still the recruiter does not get the best candidates. But search is no longer just search anymore. If you are logged in to Google then your results are personalised which means John may see something different to Janet even if they do the same search at the same time. I've even read somewhere that even if not logged in, Google will personalise your search to what they think is "right" based on a number of factors.

Optimising your jobs is purely one piece of the jigsaw. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Build it you can, but they ain't gonna come running just because you did!
