Employer Brand + Facebook = Great Referral Model

Amazon Facebook

I blogged about the concept of integrating a career site with a Facebook Page in February but this takes it a step further.

A lot of people (job seekers and recruiters) feel Facebook is for Friends and Linkedin is for Business Contacts which I do accept. However, most of my friends have jobs and it is useful to know when they have moved. But also for an employer brand, if they could connect their career site with their new employees Facebook profiles they could do some clever communication activities such as:

  • Your Friend Fred has just started a new job at XYZ - send him a congratulations message. Imagine how this could spread!
  • Fred is looking for Manager of ABC - can you help him find someone?
  • XYZ Company has just sent Fred on a training course for 123.
  • Fred has just had his new phone/laptop/company car etc. Ask him what he thinks about it.

Of course Fred would have to agree to sharing his information with his Friends but if he does, and I'd guess in lots of cases he would, his Friends get to see how his new job is going. There is of course a downside to it all but that's the case in everything.

I think it is too easy to class Facebook just for Friends. The referral model IMO fits well with Facebook so it is a fantastic way of upping the game as far as your referral programme is concerned. I would even go as far as saying that the referral aspect of direct resourcing is the most under utilised channel. It is also the one that every company claims to do well but very few really do. But for those that think they do it well, this to me would be a big leap forward.

What do you think?
