What's got into everyone? I'm just asking don't shoot me!

I reckon the summer has come about at just the right time so a few people can get off on holiday and take stock. I'm not sure where it all started really. A long, long time ago (maybe before the Romans) I commented on blogs becoming, dare I say, a little boring. This was based on my comment probably on Twitter that I hadn't read all my RSS feeds for a while. Jon Ingham suggested I had the wrong feeds and I should add his. So I did. I still can't remember the last time I checked Google Reader. I resorted to e-mail alerts. Maybe I'm old. Maybe I'm going to be accused of a Ratner moment (if anyone knows what that means) as Bill Boorman was accused of last week. It was Bill that started all this summer madness off with his post Stop the social recruiting BS.

You see, there is a lot of great stuff out there but also a lot of noise (nothing knew I know). But I do listen. Lisa Scales goes out in the middle of the night and runs. I run but not being a badger/vampire/burglar tend to wait until the sun is up. I thought I'd listen and learn and give it a try. Today I left the house at 05:30. If my wife had been awake she would have probably thought I was doing a runner! I got back at 06:30 and no one even knew I had been out - not even the dog. So I did some work. Then got everyone fed and watered and off to school/work and back to my desk. It's now 10:30. What do I do now? I don't normally see my desk until 11am at best. (After a run of course so it's not like I am in bed until that time.) So I thought I'd write this blog post. Just to show I'm still here. Not that anyone would notice of course. OK so 100's of people (literally) watched the SRSW video yesterday but that was yesterday. You are only as good as your last post/update/tweet etc. Or are you?

But, going back to Bill. He started something as ever. Matt Alder jumped in with his "I'm not listening, give me some attention or I'm leaving" blog post. And Andy Headworth threw a few rocks at Bill as usual. But, then we get HR Guru Gareth chucking in a load of sexual innuendo's (#weird) and then believe it or not, even the God of all things that are funny recruitment training video's Roy Ripper starts getting all sexual about (wait for it)...... "headhunting". Are we all so desperate for some love and attention we have resorted to writing crap like this? Maybe this is it. The anals of blogtime. Where we end up. Destined to be lost somewhere between Starbucks checkins and reality. Having to check Godzilla or Nine Square to know where we are in the morning (where and who did I check in with last night?). I know there is a lot more of this great stuff out there in every industry. I mean we have the newcomers like TheHRD.  Maybe I'll add him to my RSS feeds to spice them up a little and invigorate my interest once again? I do listen. I'm just not sure why everyone is saying all this stuff all over again. We've had the conversation so I'm thinking I must have missed something. I'm off for a weekend retreat soon where I can meditate and chant and all that stuff. Maybe it will come to me in a moment of enlightenment. I'm sure it will and then I'll be back on the same wave length with Andy and Bill, Matt and Gareth. Roy I'm not so sure about but he's a funny guy either way. TheHRD of course. I think I'm with you - almost.

Maybe I/we just need a holiday. Or an England win. A Rooney hat trick or Gerrard and Lampard managing to have a shot at goal instead of passing the ball to each other within 5 yards of goal. Even a shot at their own goal would be a good start (they'd miss anyway). So maybe it is not Bill's fault after all. Maybe we should blame Capello instead.

So having started soooo early I still have along day ahead of me. I could do 2 days work in 1 and take tomorrow off to watch the football assuming they will win, the nation will then ignore the budget, Andy Murray will compete for air time with Rooney et al and recruitment and HR bloggers will get back to normal. Something in this last paragraph feels somewhat optimistic but I do live in hope; always. I'm even going to check my RSS feeds for some greatness. You never know.

I'm done here, nothing more I can say. I still don't get what it was all about but I've got work to do.
