Big, niche or dead?

The big question for any business is how to survive.  How big is big?  How niche is niche?  How dead is dead?  A lot of businesses (Woolworths, MFI etc) were dead but would not admit it.  So what about the world of recruitment?

Big is most likely top 1 or 2.  Anything else and it is only a matter of time before you eat or get eaten.  But as I can't really comment too much on big, how about niche?

Is E-resourcing niche enough?  Is Social Recruiting a bit better?  Or is it Facebook Recruiting only?  Got to pick a market that is big enough to sustain my extravagant lifestyle but niche enough not to be big.  Who know's?  What's your dilemma for 2010?  Survival or growth, niche or VERY niche?

Friday ramblings; I apologise.  Other work to do but distracted as ever - the life of a Blogger. Must get back to Twitter.  Or should I be waving these days - if only I knew how.

Career site SEO - ignore it at your peril

I have read a few posts recently and heard a few ad agencies suggest to clients that SEO is not something to worry about.  Maybe if you are Rupert Murdoch you can take that view but for a corporate career site to block search engines is crazy, crazy stupid.

Best UK Recruitment Blog 2009 - Sirona streaks ahead

Sales graph

Don't worry, no naked pictures (this time).

I did a blind poll late last week and according to the results Sirona is out of the trap first and streaking ahead with the most votes so far.  But does he have the staying power.  According to @saraheadworth he always talks a good talk but is always over well before Liverpool kick-off.  Maybe he will the same winter of discontent as Rafa.  Or will @billboorman get his fruit cake follower to add nasty comments to this blog to persuade you in his favour?

He may be ahead right now but there are another 4 weeks of play to go.  Don't let the blind poll lead you astray.

Jedward may have gone (at long last) but Pandy are here to stay!!

Seth Godin may be wrong on this one?

070227_seth_godins_mind

Looks like Seth felt the urge to follow me (:>] in commenting on Rupert Murdoch thinking of blocking search engines from his site.

Recruitment 20??: You will charge agencies!

I can imagine the agency owners scoffing at such a suggestion when they can hardly charge out their services as it is let alone PAY employers!  But the game is changing and maybe this is not such a bad idea.  Take a moment to hear my thoughts on this one.

Murdoch versus Google - the gloves are off!

Rupert murdoch According to recent reports Rupert Murdoch is considering blocking search engines from his sites as he gets ready to charge for content.

Of course there are many views and opinions on who will win the battle of content (paid or free) but some of Murdoch's points are quite interesting and have a baring on recruitment activities.

Best UK Recruitment Blog 2009 - Come on refereeeeeee

Thierry-henry

What is it with the referee of this very serious competition.  Having asked for my blog to be given the correct name in the list I am still waiting for it to be corrected.  A slight of hand on Louise's keyboard and the outcome could be impacted fairly but, by ignoring my plea's for fairness she leaves me with no option but to play on and hope for the best.  In the meantime, I have notified FIFA of my concerns.

Help me avoid legal action against FIFA; click here to vote today.

UPDATE: The referee has listened to my plea for equality and corrected my blog name.  Is this just a ruse to get me off the conspiracy theory trail?

For example, if SEO is something you want to know more about, the support programme includes various reports and webinars to take you from the initial assessment included in the Handbook to actually making the changes.

So pre-order your own personal copy today at www.hirestrategies.co.uk/handbook.

P.S. Postage and packing is also free to anywhere in the World - but only for the first few hundred so get yours quick!

Best UK Recruitment Blog 2009 - Sirona and Botman conspire against me

Andy and Bill conspiracy

Sirona are out to win this year and have even pulled out the big guns to help (see Unblog point 4).  But maybe Andy needs to focus his efforts in helping out Rafa; or has he given up on European football and accepted that Leicester, Derby and Nottingham are more convenient than Manchester and London?  Looks like second place is his real calling.

Please help me stop this outrageous conspiracy; click here to vote!
