Twitter Partners | Hype or help

Snake oil sales person

The Twitter Partners media offering looks like it is going be a sought after service based on some of the customers they claim to have e.g. Paramount, Universal Pictures, Lionsgate and Warner Music.  But are they the experts they claim to be?

The first point was to look at their website.  Pretty basic to say the least but arguably in line with Twitter i.e. simple and low volume but not that impressive.  I was however impressed by the list of 'employees' and 'advisors' ALL with a link to their Twitter profiles.  Cool huh. Not really.  The majority don't use Twitter that much or have only recently started so it looks more like a bit of a show than anything else.

My point is that they offer to help brands develop a Twitter marketing strategy yet they are not exactly that experienced themselves in using Twitter.  I have a running coach who has ran serious times (and still does) and applies this knowledge to his coaching; how much credibility would he have otherwise?  OK, so a Doctor does not have to have had a leg amputated to be able to amputate a leg but he/she does need to have a LOT of experience and research knowledge behind them to be able to competently and confidently undertake the operation.

I just wonder how much Twitter Partners charge their customers for their service; maybe Twitter should invest while they can.  Or is it just a bit too slippery?  I'll bet New Media Age are not that happy about dedicating the entire front page to the "partnership" either. I'm sure they're a great company really what with all those big hitters :)
