Maybe a bit sad but a bit of fun.

That is my actual number as well.

Twitter will kill off recruitment agencies

Doh

Of course it won't but it will have an impact as will all other social media channels.  It's not about what Twitter does, but how you use it.  Many corporate recruiters are getting in on Twitter but just having a brand and a profile won't deliver much at all.  The social recruiter has a chance to grow even in this market but they have to open their eyes and be prepared to adapt.  Remember when job boards first appeared?  Not many thought they would rule recruitment advertising so quickly but, will they themselves survive?

Cheezhead Twitter Traffic No 3 driver - Are you sure Joel?

Cheezhead Twitter

Saw this Tweet by Cheezhead the other day and it made me think.
  1. Really? Like are you sure Joel? I'm really surprised.
  2. How do my channels stack up?

Facebook Connect Job Applications

Facebook connect

I wonder how long it will be before people can apply for jobs using their Facebook login as per PayPal.  OK, so it will need FB to add a CV/Resume module (or someone to build one) but as more and more employers check new hire FB profiles anyway, why not?

Twitter or Blog | Blog or Twitter

Do we need a blog and a twitter account or is just one enough?  Even a short message has a place on a blog and vice versa; and if both connect with each other why do one instead of the other?

Twitter Partners | Hype or help

Snake oil sales person

The Twitter Partners media offering looks like it is going be a sought after service based on some of the customers they claim to have e.g. Paramount, Universal Pictures, Lionsgate and Warner Music.  But are they the experts they claim to be?

Twitter Partners not quite "partners"

The launch of Twitter Partners caused quite a stir in the press around the fact that Twitter had invested in the company.  At first I thought maybe this is the Twitter business plan.  Build a service that everyone wants but keep it free but then, invest in loads of smart service companies who charge to make the most of it (Twitter).  Would have been quite a clever idea I think.

According to both Twitter Partners AND Twitter the relationship is not quite what was reported.  Maybe Google is the answer?

Google is not the answer

Ten Things Twitter | Social Recruiting

I've continued my Ten Things You Probably Didn't Know series with a Twitter version.  Focused purely around recruiting as usual but worth a read; see what you think.

Candidate is (still) king.

King I think this cartoon is so apt at the moment.

I have recently sold my cars and my house so am in the market to buy a replacement car and a new house (no buyers for my wife).  But, based on my experience some of the car dealers and estate agents do not have the view that buyers with cash are in short supply.  My experience as a buyer has been nothing short of very disappointing so it makes me wonder how hard it must be for anyone looking for a job.

I can imagine that many of the very short sighted recruiters out there will be treating candidates badly as it is an 'employers (buyers) market'.  Well, maybe they should think again.

Good quality people are still hard to find and if anything, they need a lot more convincing to get them to move.  Far from it being 'easier' for recruiters to find good candidates at the moment, I'd say it is as tough as it gets.  And, any recruiter who thinks they can treat candidates shoddily right now will get their come-uppance in due course.

Will communities take over from unions but with greater power?

Workers revolt

As communities get bigger what collective power will they have?  Unions have traditionally been a way for the people to have a collective voice but do they always get the deal they feel is right?  Or do their leaders sell them down the river?  Big debate I know but what if communities get so big they become the voice of the people?
