How to significantly improve staff retention - Ryanair style

Gun to head

Well known for aggressive staff and shoddy service; all because you (all of us damn customers) pay f*** all for tickets, maybe there is yet another cost saving strategy behind it.

Make your staff so rude and obnoxious that:

  1. They enjoy it.
  2. It becomes habit.
  3. They become totally unemployable so can't get another job even if they tried.
  4. Staff retention is 100% until Ryanair choose otherwise!

Could you image what an interview would be like with a Ryanair employee?  To get a feel here's a great post with some lovely examples.  Who knows what will now happen to me!!

Ryanair's message to customers: Blog off.

Do your Tweets get heard by job seekers?

Can you hear me

Recruiters are always to quick to jump on new bandwagons and Twitter is no different; and who can blame them.  But is Twitter going to be a success for job seekers and recruiters; particularly when Twycross Zoo had 3,000 people turn up, in person, for 150 jobs working with animals i.e. not highly paid jobs.

As with many aspects of social media, there is lots of commentary but never enough hard evidence or facts to base decisions on.  I do know of some recruiters that can show some value from Twitter but how many ways are recruiters going to be using Twitter over the coming months.  Feel free to leave a comment and let me know.  I'll be starting a quick survey soon to try and get some more feedback which I will share here.

Jeremiah Owyang - good cop, bad cop

New York Jeremiah

I read a post by Jeremiah Owyang yesterday titled Expect Changes at Mzinga which it would seem was both incorrect and considered by many (me included) to be unacceptable/unnecessary from such an influential person. I was going to respond but today's events have just added to my post.

I think this may just have knocked Jeremiah off the lofty perch he has put himself upon - or will it?

Facebook Notes Vs Typepad

I think Typepad is fantastic and wouldn't change BUT for anyone starting out and not yet sure could Facebook notes be enough?

FB vs TP

I think it is a very serious option.

For a small business who has a limited budget, or a larger employer who wants something they can use either externally or for a niche group e.g. recruiting then FB Notes is a viable option.  But why?  What does Notes give that FB doesn't?

Social media is your greatest (people) asset

People greatest asset
A phrase that although well worn, still used in so many places and still something HR (at least) claim to be of vital importance based on our own recent research i.e. employee engagement and talent management being rated by over 90% of participants as vital to their corporate success.

So how does social media fit in?  (It's a long answer!)

Twitter adverts ahoy - spotted on the starboard side Cap'n.....

Twitter Ad Is that an advert or an albatross?  Is this a sudden sneak preview of how Twitter may start to push a few Google style adverts onto the site?

I've not noticed them before so maybe I spend to much time in Tweetdeck to notice.  That being the case it doesn't seem that this is the plan, particularly as Twitter have possibly the purest web 2.0 service whereby you no longer need to visit the site (host of possible adverts) to benefit from the service.

Or maybe they will extend the text allowance to include an advert tagged onto your feed?  Who knows really but maybe, just maybe this is a bit of a sneak preview??

Tweet now - speak later

Shout marketing
How long does a Tweet last?  Minutes, hours, days?  Based on my own traffic flow to my site from tweets it is not very long.  So how often should you RT if indeed you should.  I think that repeating the same thing over and over can become somewhat boring but is this not what marketers do?

Someone more qualified than me wrote an interesting post on the length of their Tweets and RTing: The life and times of a Twitter link.

Twitterless or Twitter less | Recruiters go forth

Twitter in the clouds

How did we survive without the bird?  But more importantly how do we survive with it?  Does it make us less or more efficient/effective?

Twittercruit: Should you use Twitter for recruiting?

Twitter the bird

I have been asked this quite a few time over the last week or so which suggests people want to but don't know if they should.  Here are seven reasons why I think you should.
