Twitter business strategies

So many people are jumping into Twitter, including businesses, but how many do it with any thought or indeed as part of a strategy.

OK, so many don't really have a strategy but what if they did?

What would a Twitter strategy look like?

Here's a few for starters - people focused of course.

Not that I know much.

Lots of followers

Someone such as Tesco would be able to generate a large number of followers very quickly but would they need lots more potential job applicants?  With the number of jobs being created by the supermarkets just having live job feeds wouldn't go amiss and they would not need to have any human intervention making the process fully automated zero workload for recruiters.

Staying focused

Large employers should have multiple profiles so they can focus on specific business areas such as IT, graduates, operations etc.  Someone such as HSBC have more IT staff than many software companies.  Tesco/ASDA have bigger clothing operations than most fashion retailers.  So their 'niche' employment areas are not exactly small.

Fire talk

In the event if a major catastrophe Twitter has been used to great effect.  When M&S announced their recent job cuts they could have very quickly and easily set-up emergency Twitter profiles to communicate with employees.  OK, there would be some security elements to consider but that is easily addressed.

Just like it is

Hell, they could even just use Twitter as per the design and let potential applicants or new hires know whats going on in a recruitment phase/area/campaign as part of a 'better communication' strategy.  It doesn't have to be anymore complex than that.

New hires

All the newbies could have a 1-month Twitter support person to well, you know, tell them where to eat, sleep, hide, get water/gossip etc.  Little things can make a big difference.

And finally.....

OK, so Twitter don't seem to need to make any money but maybe they could provide an 'enterprise' version of Twitter that was easier to control followers etc so more of the above could happen more easily.  Just £1 per follower could soon rack up.
