Bad landing page?

Plane-crash-2

Google are pushing Adwords for recruitment quite hard these days which I am in support of.  But, one of the biggest errors I still see from job boards to (a few) corporates are bad landing pages.

So for those that are not sure here's a basic example.

Boots are advertising, in an Adword, 2 for the price of 1 baby wipes.  I click on the advert and where do I land?

  1. On a web page with a picture of said baby wipes and a very obvious 'Add to basket' link OR
  2. The homepage of Boots.com with no sign of any baby wipes.

Hopefully the answer is pretty obvious? (It's no 1).  Yet, I see this still:

Great Sales Manager jobs at company X.  I click on the advert and go to:

  1. A list of Sales Manager jobs for company X OR
  2. A homepage of a job board with a search option to look for said jobs.

This time the answer is no 2.  And I see the same for many corporates as well.  Why? I won't go into it other than they have not applied any thought to how they are wasting their money.

Here's an example that has over 6 months delivered high CTR's and many good quality applicants proving Google can work for niche recruitment: retail buying jobs.

  • Click on the Boots Adword for how it should be done.
  • Click on the Jobsite or Totaljobs Adword for how NOT to do it.

Enjoy!!
