Barack Obama job applications

Obama
Barack Obama used social media to great effect during his recent campaign. According to a recent report the vetting form to join his cabinet is 63 pages and asks about every blog post you may have written that could prove embarrassing for the president-elect!

So although he used social media to great effect he's also using it as part of the vetting process. Irony or hypocrisy?

A cheeky (but appropriate) response to the recent Broadbean news...

....or so the e-mail suggests!

I received an e-mail today with the link below which is even more amusing when you realise who it is from i.e. my old company that was acquired by Jobs.co.uk plc then ripped away from the shareholders through a phoenix process and is now the (only) jewel in the crown of the blind man who has no idea where he's going, what he's got and what he should do with it.  But hey, here's the link and a bit of free PR anyway.

They'll only screw this up as well unless we will soon see Webbean!!

Bad landing page?

Plane-crash-2

Google are pushing Adwords for recruitment quite hard these days which I am in support of.  But, one of the biggest errors I still see from job boards to (a few) corporates are bad landing pages.

Don't Facecruit me | I'm in the pub

Inthepub

There is still so much talk about using Facebook to recruit which can be of value if you use it well but the latest discussion I heard was around advertising on Facebook.  I reckon you may as well place a few adverts in the local pub.  Guess what, people in the pub are there to FORGET about work not be reminded about it.  In my view, people on Facebook (or any other SN's) couldn't care less about your recruitment adverts.

BTW: Industry stats are quoting a click through rate of 0.3% of such ads.

Shaving technology | The AZOR

KOS_AZOR_POLA_BACK_v1

A couple of weeks ago I was sent some free gifts from King of Shaves in order that I would try them out and then blog about them.

The first item was the new AZOR razor and having NOT cut my throat and still being around to blog (just been busy then illl!!) here are my thoughts.

Kind of the iPod of razors and as a big fan of KoS products anyway and this being a nice kick at Gillette was quite pleased.  Timing was pretty good as well on the basis that I was due to buy some more Gillette turbo rip-off blades any day.  The Azor is a bit strange due to the lack of movement but it works very well and at around £4 for the razor and 3 blades damn good value.

Bottom line: 8/10.

I was also sent some shaving gel which was pretty fantastic as well!

But what has this to do with 'talent technology'?  Well, maybe some of the suppliers to the industry could give away free trials to some corporate recruiters in return for some feedback.  I'd be happy to send out free trials via Talent Cloud to people on the basis that they gave some honest feedback.  Maybe some of the ATS vendors could offer a standard set-up version of their ATS to be used with a pre-set number of job boards?

Apart from that, I'll be having many more low cost shaves.

The social thinker

I have just launched another blog the social thinker which underpins a PAPER based quarterly publication of the same name that goes out this week to CEO's and HRD's only.  Having the additional blog allows me to keep this blog focused on talent technology and controversy whilst the social thinker will focus on social media and how it can be used to transform your business.  Feel free to share your thoughts as ever!
