The career site 2.0

Graduate recruitment sites have been around a long time as a separate entity to the corporate recruitment site.  But with the web 2.0 world we live in how is the career site going to change; or will it lag behind?

As people with specific skill sets become harder to find will we start to see more and more microsites.  For example, will a large technology company create a specific microsite for software engineers?  Or a retailer create one for Buyers?

Boots for example have created a new dedicated site for their product development team which you can see at www.boots.jobs/innovation.  There are of course many other examples that are around but this is only the first step towards creating niche applicant environments.

Some of the changes we will see more of over time will be:

  • RSS feeds will be come commonplace.
  • Specific blogs.
  • Feedback/comments sections.
  • Integration with social networks; internal or third party as long as they are relevant.
  • Widgets to add a piece of the site to iGoogle, Facebook etc.

The primary objective will be to start a conversation with relevant people rather than just rely on reactive advertising, and to retain interest by adding a range of social media applications to the site.  Not exactly radical but when we still get new sites being launched that don't even get the basics right, ever so slightly radical is hardly going to be commonplace!
