The Barkers Blogette

When I left school I started my working life as an apprentice vehicle mechanic at the local council working initially with an older mechanic who had been there for 35 years; both before and after the war!  He was a real expert in Massey Ferguson tractors, even being called by Massey themselves to solve some interesting technical solutions.

The main thing he taught me, is that to teach other people you need to be an expert yourself; or at least be better than the people you teach!  And you never stop learning so don't stop doing.

Now Ernie may have been old, and no longer with us, but his views still ring true as far as I am concerned.  I wasn't the best mechanic and argued too much with the foreman for many reasons; all of which resulted in me being right(not!) and him not letting me have any extra overtime, as well as being tied to vehicles, having my sandwiches 'abused' etc etc.

A few weeks ago I complimented Barkers on their website and their shiny new blog; wondering if they'd keep it up.  They do of course have a fantastic digital team that advises their clients on how to use online to attract and hire great people so following Ernie's advice (see, there was a link to the start of this post) I did of course subscribe to their blog making sure I got their latest posts the moment they went live.  But the results look more like a Liverpool scoreline (OK, so they got 4 last night):

January - 2
February - 1

I can't wait for this month's enthralling additions.  Either way, Ernie will not be impressed!  I wonder what their clients will think?

Barkers may not care and see no value in what I'm saying.  However, one of their competitors will no doubt be in total agreement with me; they've seen the point being made in action and converting to new business. :>p
