Mydeco - Mycv?

Lastminute.com founder Brent Hoberman has recently launched a homeware site called Mydeco.  It's looks like a great idea and uses of lots of web 2.0 ideas to provide a great user experience and will no doubt make Brent even more money!

And, I think it could show us some great ways of making recruitment even more web 2.0.

So how does this concept apply to working or getting a job?

The basic premise for Mydeco is that you can create a room look and feel by using products/designs from 100's of retailers without having to leave the site.  You can then buy it all in one go from Mydeco and hey presto, time for a few beers rather than trudging around the shops all day.  And of course you'll eventually be able to publish your new room onto Facebook et al.

From a recruitment viewpoint, the concept of having your CV online is nothing new and with social networking sites there is a lot more information around.  Add all of this together and then mash it up with a range of personality profiles and psychometric assessments then we start to get a much more in depth view of someone.  Then, do the same with employer details and add in staff turnover rates at a senior level and do some smart profiling of the people who left, those that succeeded/failed etc and a profile emerges of what works well with whom at wherever.

The site then matches YOU against a number of employers and the type of manager you work best with.  And finally, you publish your profile direct to the relevant companies who in turn can 'look' for people who are best suited to their organisation.  And of course the site can highlight HOT candidates who based on certain criteria e.g. length of service, last promotion, current salary, comments on blogs etc when they are going to be most receptive to a job offer.

As with most web 2.0 idea's there are not necessarily that many fantastic new concepts just better ways of making the most of all of the data that is washing around out there.

In the meantime, Brent has a long way to go with connecting product and concept as 66% of products I tried to buy were no longer available on the retailers site!
