Great talent managers

Are football teams maybe the greatest of all talent managers?  And if so, what can businesses learn from them?

Talent scouts, apprentices, schools liaison officers, agents(!), team rotation, squads etc.

How many organisations have anything like this?  How many organisations have an actual talent strategy beyond the Board if at all?  Or are the majority fighting relegation whilst the 'three at the top' (as in football) fight alone for the top slots.
