Job board masala

When I first started to eat curry it was that horrible Vesta frozen muck my parents generation dared to call curry.  Since those halcyon days, the now famous chicken tikka masala has become a staple diet of the UK and has even been quoted as the UK's favourite dish!

But as with anything that starts off as a niche or designer concept of a high quality, commodotisation ends up with quality levels all over the place.

Totaljobs will no doubt claim to be the UK's favourite job board but since the early days when they had to educate the market, commodotisation of the job boards has resulted in quality levels sinking with little or no innovation on the horizon (from job boards) and conversion ratios sinking to pathetic levels (in my evidence based experience).

So rather than do something new Totaljobs spread a bit more muck and relaunch(!) The Totaljobs Network; just more of the same if you ask me.  It just looks like the 'new' old media are trying to protect their hard won patch (which I fully understand) but it entirely misses the point.

If an organisation really wants global reach why mess around with multiple price points when you can manage the whole piece via Google Adwords.  If you do want some extra marketing try some of the job aggregators such as Indeed or Workhound.  Maybe even optimise your site; if you are global enough to 'need' The Network then you will be a big brand that can no doubt generate a lot of traffic anyway.

So for me it is The Not Work!  I'm just glad my favourite curry house is as good as ever.
