Pete's eats suffer staff crisis

I visited the sunny Welsh town of Llanberis last weekend for a bit of a lads weekend in the hills.  Having seen one of the older members of our clan narrowly avoid death when one of our younger members decided to start a mini avalanche; and our inexperienced members suffer the legendary Crib Goch, we eventually retired to the safety of Pete's Eats for a well earned cuppa.

But alas, due to a local staff crisis Pete's was shut until further notice!

Best UK Recruitment Blog of 2007

Seems like I was the last to know based on a very small number of 'congratulations' e-mails I saw via my Blackberry earlier today.  I actually thought I'd had another threatening legal letter from someone and they were congratulating me on upsetting some big wigs in the media industry.

Blog_winner But no, it was notification that I had won the UK Recruiter Best UK Recruitment Blog of 2007, as confirmed earlier today by Louise in her blog.

Now, I'm not exactly saying this was like Manchester United versus Derby as there are many other bloggers who create more intelligent posts than I do.  More importantly, the more we can raise the profile and value of business blogging, increase our traffic, and generate fantastic site revenues, the better the chance of a UK blogger 1) Beating the US bloggers in the Best International Recruitment Blog 2008 and 2) More chance of Google buying one of our blogs for $zillions rather than Cheeseboy's blog.

.

In anticipation of receiving my prize I'd also like to thank Jason for his kind donation but would stress that $500 is not enough from my blog!

And finally, whilst I have your attention I would like to deny the rumours that Dan the Man has been saying about me on his blog.  For the record I have NO recollection of sending him a Christmas card, even if he has some kind of evidence - I did not see it and anyway it must have been a 'reserve team' admin person that may have done something I did not know about.

I didn't create the rosette!

Recruitment advertising: online versus offline

Although I enjoyed a cold but very refreshing run through the forest this morning, I am still on my soap box about recruitment advertising.

Maybe I will have to run harder so my mind cannot think about work!

Can you track recruitment advertising performance?

I am still amazed at the volume of offline recruitment advertising that has no obvious attempt of measurement.  I also hear recruitment advertising agencies 'blaming' the ATS vendor for not being able to track online advertising yet they (ad agencies) don't appear to be any better with offline.

But maybe in the same way the oil companies do not want electric cars, ad agencies don't really want to be able to measure advertising performance!

Guru resorts to soft porn to drive traffic

It looks like Guru is struggling to keep it up in his old age after moving into his second year of blogging and has resorted to soft porn advertising video's from YouTube to maintain his performance.

Power of the retail blog

I know paying Bloggers to post on behalf of advertisers is not a new concept but I think it will grow in demand so I started looking into 'products' such as PayPerPost.

I also did a quick test as well and looked at some historical information across my blog posts.

Social networking everywhere

My youngest daughter decided to spend some of her hard earned Santa money on Lego.  No software or batteries needed for what she wanted (yet).  So off we went to the Lego website to see what she could find.

Not only has that damn Sponge Bob Squarepants got in on the act but, they also have a social network for Lego fans.

Seems that both Bob and social networks are everywhere!

Which e-mail address?

I remember going to a seminar about 5 years ago when one of the speakers talked about e-mail addresses.  Almost everyone had an e-mail address, very few had 2 e-mail address and no-one had 3+ e-mail addresses.

Gasp, shock, horror; he knew kids with 5+ addresses.
