You will of course know who this is! Well done so far with your Human Resources Guru blog Guru, Personnel Today will no doubt be proud of you :>)
I'm going to open up this debate as there seems to be very different opinions from the US and UK about the validity of my two previous posts RSS - The death of eQuest and Broadbean and New job posting tool.
Before I start though, I have to point out one comment made on Dan's blog by Colin Minto - "the UK’s leading authority on traditional recruitment, on-line recruitment, e-HR and emerging staffing technology and software and its application in today’s employment marketplace".
"I expect RSS could be used to bulk post jobs to job boards, however, surely the only boards that could draw benefit from creating an RSS feed of client vacancies to their site are the free to post ones; e.g. reed.co.uk and Job Warehouse from Jobcentre Plus".
What a guru huh, doesn't even seem know how RSS works - post jobs to....!
LET US BEGIN!
So, in the green corner we have Danny 'boy' McGuire of job posting tool Broadbean. He may be younger and have more hair, but has he got the beans to keep up? We will see!!
And in the blue corner we have yours truly, described by my young opponent as management consultant, runner, soothsayer…
Rules of the game - make them up as we go along. The prize to include food and alcohol at a place of choice designated by the winner and paid for by the loser. Enter the ring if you dare Danny boy.........
Why do I think RSS is a killer app to 'traditional' job posting?

Alternative recruitment advertising methods include podcasting jobs.
A couple of weeks ago I dared to comment about Guru and his Personnel Today blog and his 'link to nowhere'.
Not surprisingly, Guru countered with 'Ray guns at dawn' just to add a bit of spice to his blog. But, my comment on his rather long URL seems to have made a point and has now been shortened to www.personneltoday.com/gurublog. It still resolves to the old URL for some strange reason but maybe bit by bit he is getting it??
Of course, Guru is not missing a chance for a bit of blogvertising on his site as can be seen below.
Guru may of course think he is in familiar waters with his advertising banners but if not, be careful Guru, you'll need more than a few ray guns for protection!!

I received this e-mail from His Guruness of Personnel Today and previous post - love it :>)

Guru has been trying to post a comment on your blog, but without success (it keeps crashing after he presses "post"). Are you able to post it for him?
Name: Guru
E-mail: guru@personneltoday.com
URL: www.personneltoday.com/blogs/human-resources-guru
Comment: URL and link working fine - might be a typing problem! Now Guru may be a terrible old-school technophobe, but the new Guru blog is a work of art (if Guru does say so himself). Also check out Guru's MySpace page, which has already attracted 75 beautiful friends.
PS - Might it also be worth adding reciprocal links to each other's sites?
Thanks,
Guru

Now then Guru, are you suggesting I got your link wrong or did someone update it after I pointed it out? I am impressed that such and old school type found my post so quickly but maybe if you haven't quite mastered the 'submit post' bit on the comments yet than maybe, just maybe, you have a personal blog assistant that only a Guru could command.
The Myspace link did however work but I would have to look at charging you if I allowed too much advertising from you on MY site. Maybe I could charge the same rate that PTod charges - how much, you're having a laugh - best not get me started on that one.
Guru, who writes a witty, sharp assesment of all things wrong in HR has today announced his new blog at www.personneltoday.com/blogs/human-resources-guru.
Within his blog article Guru told us about an unnamed Editor who regards bloggers as 'w*nkers in pyjamas who like to write about their cats'.
Not sure about the cats but at least their blogs exist - or maybe Guru's easy to remember, SEO friendly URL is just another ruse. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a typical PTod cock-up or yet another Guru wind-up. Talk about the link to nowhere!
So, we have yet another a new job posting tool in the UK with yet another great name! Did they not read my post ‘RSS - the death of eQuest and Broadbean’? Maybe they didn’t, or maybe they did not agree with me? Like lambs to the slaughter.
Broadbean, PostingPal, Jobmate, Postingdude, Jobquest and any other job posting tool will not survive due to RSS. Really Simple – the exact opposite of job posting tools. And by the way, it’s also free.
I’m sure that Broadbean on their quest for global domination disagree with me but it’s only a matter of time before we see the first RSS style job posting integration and the rest will be history. Maybe I'll do it first, bit like automated applicant tracking rather than the pathetic drop down 'where did you see this job' type tracking and show the boys how to do it yet again.
Recruiter Magazine, the UK recruitment industry comic, reports the other week that the previously announced launch of Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) sector group for online recruitment is now set to launch by June. Having already slipped by 4 months maybe they mean June 2008.
The group is to examine how online recruitment and recruiters interact but this is the best bit.
“The need for the group was highlighted last week as recruiters alleged that large job boards sell their CV databases to both agencies and employers. The MD of one agency stated that he was OK with employers advertising jobs on job boards but had a problem with them sourcing the same data as him from the CV databases.”
Absolutely, why should employers be able to stop the agencies making an honest living. And whilst the yet to be formed group, led by that tiger with denture problems is at it, let's get the employers kicked off the job boards, and demand minimum fee levels of 30%, no rebate period and full payment in advance. That should sort it.
So, a few weeks ago the job boards were whining and now it's the agencies. It’s going to be an amazing, thought provoking, positive group that’s going to be leading online recruitment.
